Below is a selection of trails that the author of this site considers classics. These trails have been chosen for a variety of reasons, ranging from the scenery they offer, to the quality of their running surfaces, and the aesthetic appeal of their routes.
In the spirit of running, loops and points-to-points have been chosen before out-and-backs. Trails are selected where one can safely run the whole trail, apart from a possible few short sections of steep rocky terrain or exposed ridges, when no reasonable alternative is possible. If the route has steep rocky terrain or exposed ridges, it will be noted in the description.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of trails as route possibilities in the Canadian Rockies are near-limitless. Trail information is listed: distance, elevation gain, trail character, and whether it is a loop, point-to-point or out-and-back.
