If you’re searching for a trail that’s close to Calgary and less crowded than other popular trails, Mist Ridge is an excellent option. The trail is located in the Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park in Alberta, Canada.
The trail offers fantastic 360-degree views, with approximately 6 kilometers of the trail spent on the ridge crest of Mist Ridge. Two great times to visit this trail are mid-summer when the wildflowers are in full bloom and in the fall when the larches are changing colors.
The trail is easy to follow for the majority of the trip, except for some faint sections above tree line. However, navigation is generally not a problem, as when in doubt you can simply stay on the ridge crest.
The trail is best done in a counter-clockwise direction. This lets one enjoy the well-graded run down the Mist Creek Trail on the way back to the parking lot.
