Trail Type: Loop

The Iceline Trail is without a doubt one of the most stunning trails in the Canadian Rockies. It starts at the Takakkaw Falls trailhead, climbs up to the base of a glaciated bench, and returns through a beautiful valley. The trail showcases the some of the best of what the Canadian Rockies have to offer.

The loop is easy to navigate, as there are only a few junctions and plenty of signage. In addition, the route described is just one of the many choices you have in this well-developed trail network. You can extend the loop by adding a trip to the north and visiting Twin falls and to the south visiting Yoho Lake.

In the author's opinion, the best way to run this trail is clockwise. You will begin with a steep power hike to the bench that the trail follows, and then enjoy rolling terrain and a long, gradual descent back to the parking lot.

One thing to keep in mind is that this is one of the premier areas of the Rockies, and it is very popular. It is important to get to the trailhead early to find a parking spot. Also, be aware that the Yoho Valley Road is narrow, winding, and has restrictions on what type of vehicles are allowed on it.
